Tell Senator Heller to vote against any budget that includes ‘riders’ to kill endangered wildlife — especially any rider that would reduce protections for Mexican gray wolves

Congress and President Trump are crafting a budget bill behind closed doors and are concocting “riders” — hidden policy changes attached to the annual funding bill — that would hurt endangered wildlife.  No creature is more imperiled than the Mexican gray wolf found in Arizona, New Mexico and Mexico.

The livestock industry would like to see the Mexican wolf go extinct and is pushing for a rider that would take them off the endangered species list so that they could be killed more quickly.

Call Senator Heller and request a response to your call. Keep calling—you can call as often as you like!

In the Midwest, wolf populations are more robust but still vulnerable. In Minnesota, accordingly, they are listed as “threatened” rather than the more dire “endangered.” But wolves still don’t occupy significant portions of their U.S. range in which their presence is necessary to ensure they never disappear again. Another rider on the budget bill would remove protections from the wolves in the Midwest and begin the process of gunning those wolves down. Senator Heller should tell his colleagues today: “Count me as a No if you mess with endangered wolves.” There is no reason that funding the government for a year should depend on driving wildlife to extinction.
