Good News for Lobos!
Arizona voters defeated Proposition 109 yesterday-if it had won, Prop 109 would have put special interests ahead of scientific wildlife management and given the Arizona Legislature “exclusive” authority to make decisions on wildlife issues. It could even have resulted in the nullification of the 1994 voter-approved ballot initiative that banned steel-jawed leghold traps and poisons on public lands. Leghold traps are cruel and indiscriminate, but Prop 109 could have reversed a sixteen-year-old victory and legalized these voter-outlawed landmines for wildlife and pets-putting our wolf population at further risk.
Congratulations and many thanks to those of you who successfully campaigned and voted against this destructive proposition!
