The 2014 Mexican Wolf Conservation Stamp
NM Wild is proud to unveil the 2014 Mexican Wolf Conservation Stamp, the fourth in an annual series of framing-quality art prints offered to collectors. This year’s 4.5×5.5 inch stamp is designed by 9-year-old wolf activist Turner Burns.
Turner has been working to protect wolves since he was 7 when he met his first wolf at the Wolf Conservation Center in New York. From the moment he heard his first howl he knew that he wanted to be a wolf advocate. Turner has an organization called Kids for Wolves.
On his website, he teaches kids about how important wolves are to ecosystems and to the health of the environment as a whole. He posts facts and stories about wolves and is always ready to call his pack to action when there is a need for it, whether it be a petition to sign or a meeting to attend. Turner lives in Philadelphia, Penn., with his parents and two brothers.
The Mexican gray wolf is the most endangered wolf in the world, with a total population of 83 in the wild.
The Mexican Wolf Conservation Stamp is a conservation project created by the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance. The concept is similar to the Duck Stamp sold by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, except no hunting will be related to the sale of the stamp. Instead, proceeds will be used for the Mexican Wolf Conservation Stamp Fund.
