Respite for wolves! – The Continuing Resolution Budget bills with anti-wolf riders (1713 & 1709) have been defeated in the Senate !!

Both versions of the Continuing Resolution bill with riders that would have removed Endangered Species Act protections from gray wolves in the Northern Rockies and returned them to brutal state management were defeated in the Senate on March 9.

Please call Senators who voted against these bills and thank them.  They may have not done it for wolves per se, but their actions helped wolves and all wildlife nonetheless. Phone calls to thank them also provide an opportunity to educate them that wolves do not belong in budget bills and any further budget legislation should not include removing protections for wolves or weakening the Endangered Species Act.

Please keep calling and emailing your Senators. The fight is not over, but with HR1 defeated, we can all breathe a little easier for a few seconds.

HR1, the House budget bill, which included anti-wolf rider 1713, was defeated by a vote of 44-56. Not one Democrat voted for HR 1. Three Republican Senators crossed over to vote no on the bill. They are:
Sens. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.)
Rand Paul (R-Ky.)
Mike Lee (R-Utah)

Please call Senators that voted NO and thank them for voting against anti-wolf rider 1709 (you can explain to them why that was important for wolves).  And call those that voted YES and make them aware that 1709 would have undermined the Endangered Species Act and put Northern Rockies gray wolves in grave danger.
