Mexican Wolf Tee Shirt Design Contest Winner and Finalists!

Winning Designer: Tina Hickman
Winner Tina Hickman has been drawing all her life.  A dog groomer by trade, she also does commissioned hand-drawn pet portraits.  Her work website can be found at www.MonCheriGrooming.com If you just want to see her artwork, it can be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/moncheripetservices/ This site is constantly being updated with new works.  Although she has tried her hand at charcoal, acrylics, watercolors, scratchboard, pencils, and colored pencils, her creativity is best expressed with highly detailed, vibrant pastels or with the simpler, haunting white charcoal on black paper you see depicted in this design.

Tina’s passion for wolves is just as long-standing as her love of drawing.  Twenty years ago, she began volunteering at the Timber Wolf Preservation Society in Greendale, Wisconsin (now closed).  Her main duties were giving tours and educating the public, but during off hours, she also enjoyed one-on-one contact with the wolves.  She eventually became a board member, and when the owner died, she became primary caretaker for the wolves on the grounds.  She expresses her love for the wolves by collecting all sorts of wolf memorabilia and by capturing their spirit on paper.

Finalist Donna Smith-GraywolfDesigns (design on right) is a freelance graphic designer, who has always thought wolves are such beautiful animals. She has visited a number of wolf sanctuaries over the past several years in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Donna’s designs featuring wolves and other animals can be found on her website, www.GraywolfDesigns.com, and her Facebook page .

Finalist Areli Garcia (design on left) says that while unfortunately she has had very little direct relationship with wolves, only having had contact with them in zoos, since childhood respect for all animals has been instilled in her. Areli was a girl scout and was taught not to harm any animal. She has applied this learning to this day in her life.

Areli says “Every living being has the right to remain on this earth to naturally live. I am against any kind of hunting and for this reason, knowing about the work you do to preserve Mexican wolves, I wanted to join your project.

I believe in compassion towards humans and even to animals, and this is the reason and the interest that now motivates and moves me. If this motivation adds something positive to the preservation of wolves, I’m glad to be part of it.”
