Kids Can Give Mexican Wolf Pups Names with Our Eighth Annual Pup Naming Contest
Faces like these are more than just numbers.
Mexican gray wolves are the most endangered gray wolves in the world. Fewer than 135 roam the wildlands of the Southwest. And just like people, every Mexican wolf is special, and different, and deserving of his or her own identity.
Every year in the winter the Interagency Field Team conducts a population survey of the Mexican wolves in the wild. As part of this survey, they collar and identify with numbers pups that were born the previous spring. Our Pup Naming Contest is a way to celebrate and recognize the pups that were born in 2019. The naming contest is open to children across the globe and is a great way for kids, teachers, and parents to learn and share about these wonderful animals.
Use these resources to help make this contest a great learning experience for kids from kindergarten through eighth grade. You can find materials for your child’s age group here:

How to Enter – Guidelines and Requirements
Step One: Complete the entry form and the parental consent form online here >> https://pupnamingcontest.org/submission-parental-consent/
Step Two: Send an email by the deadline to namelobopups@gmail.com that includes:
For Kindergarten through second grade
* Photographed or scanned artwork featuring Mexican gray wolves and a brief explanation of why the name was chosen.
For Third through Fifth grade:
* Photographed or scanned artwork focused on Mexican gray wolves and a brief explanation of why the name was chosen or a poem or short essay explaining why the name was chosen.
For Sixth through Eighth grade:
* Artwork and a paragraph explanation of why the name was chosen or a poem or short essay explaining why the name was chosen.
Entries can be submitted by individuals or teams.
