Arizona Game and Fish Supports Removing Protections for Gray Wolves Nation-Wide.

Once again, AZ’s Game and Fish Commission has proven it is out of touch with most people and anxious to hinder wolf recovery. They voted unanimously today to support a letter by Senator Orrin Hatch and Representative Cynthia Lummis urging national delisting for gray wolves. The letter included this outrageous statement:

“Wolves are not an endangered species and do not merit federal protections.”

Mexican gray wolves are critically endangered, numbering only 75 in the wild. New releases and additional populations of these wolves are desperately needed for them to thrive. Endangered species protections are critical to their survival. But AZ Game and Fish has consistently worked against those things and will continue to do so if the wolves become subject to state management.

We applaud the Sierra Club’s Sandy Bahr, advocates Thom Hulen and Terry Morris,  and others who stood strong for the wolves at the Commission meeting, and all of you who, on extremely short notice, took the time to call and email the Commission on behalf of the wolves.

We can all make our voices heard now by those who matter by contacting our members of Congress and asking that they oppose removing protections for gray wolves. More information is here.

Thank you for taking action on behalf of the Southwest’s lobos!
