What You Can Do

Help Give Mexican Wolf Pups Names with Our Ninth Annual Pup Naming Contest for Kids

Open to kindergarten through eighth grade. Deadline is February 1, 2021

Faces like these are more than just numbers.

Mexican gray wolves are the most endangered gray wolves in the world. Fewer than 165 roam the wildlands of the Southwest.  And just like people, every Mexican wolf is special, and different, and deserving of his or her own identity.

Every year in the winter the Interagency Field Team conducts a population survey of the Mexican wolves in the wild.  As part of this survey, they collar and identify with numbers pups that were born the previous spring.  Our Pup Naming Contest is a way to celebrate and recognize the pups that were born in 2020.

The naming contest is open to children across the globe and is a great way for kids, teachers, and parents to learn and share information about these wonderful animals.  Entries can be submitted by individuals or teams.

We have compiled some educational resources and activities to help make this contest a great learning experience for kids from kindergarten through eighth grade.  Check out these resources on our dedicated Pup Naming Contest website!
