Flagstaff, AZ --- Join the Grand Canyon Wolf Recovery Project and Lobos of the Southwest at Firecreek Coffee Company at 22 E Rte 66, Flagstaff, AZ from 5-7 pm on Thursday, September 11 for a free event to learn about and write comments on a federal proposal that will determine the future of critically endangered native Mexican wolves.
When: Thursday, September 11, from 5- 7 pm
Where: Firecreek Coffee Company, 22 E Rte 66, Flagstaff, AZ
Why: At last count, there were only 83 wild Mexican gray wolves in the U.S. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) recently proposed changes to the rule governing the reintroduction program for the critically endangered Mexican wolf, who numbered only 83 in the wild at last count. Some of what is proposed could help the wolves thrive but many of the changes could move them toward extinction. Comments are being taken through September 23, 2014 and are our chance to weigh in and promote the restoration of wolves to suitable lands around Flagstaff and the northern Grand Canyon region, in areas scientists say are necessary for Mexican wolf recovery.
Who: Hosted by Grand Canyon Wolf Recovery Project, Lobos of the Southwest, and Sierra Club Grand Canyon Chapter.
