Tell Governor Martinez: Stop Taking Aim at Endangered Wolves

For 17 years, Ted Turner’s Ladder Ranch has been an excellent and important partner in the federal government’s Mexican gray wolf reintroduction program.

But last week, in a move based on ugly politics and a petty desire to make recovery of endangered Mexican gray wolves more difficult, NM Governor Martinez’s Game Commission denied the Ladder Ranch’s permit to continue assisting with Mexican wolf recovery.

The same Commission recently issued a proposal to allow cruel trapping of cougars and expand bear hunting in New Mexico. Governor Martinez and her Commission are clearly out of touch with the majority of New Mexicans, and out to get carnivores.

State anti-wolf actions like these are what has kept Mexican gray wolves at the brink of extinction for decades. Please stand for wolves with us to demand that the Governor get the permit approved and the power over such permits returned to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, which approved it for 17 years.

Please also contact the Governor’s office and request respectfully that she put an end to her Commission’s anti-carnivore state wildlife policies, grant the Mexican wolf permit to Ladder Ranch, and rescind the rule giving the Commission this authority.
