We believe that art can inspire not just emotions, but actions too. That is why we are asking artists who support Mexican wolf recovery to take part in our Mexican Wolf Art Contest. Lobos of the Southwest would like to share your Lobo art on our website and social media outlets to help teach the public about the beautiful and critically endangered Mexican gray wolf.
The Mexican Wolf Art Contest is open to all ages and artistic abilities. Limit of three entries per participant. All entries will be posted in the Mexican Wolves Art Contest photo album on our Facebook page and to our website.
Simple Two-Step Entry Instructions:
- Email a file of your art to info@mexicanwolves.org. Format must be in jpg, png, gif, or tif format. All images must print at least 8.5” x 11” at 300 dpi (2,550 x 3,300 pixels). Please include your full name in the text of your email.
- Complete and submit our online entry form HERE. Please submit this form at the same time as you send us your art.
If you would like to include a title and/or a brief statement (<80 words) explaining your work, please include this information in your email. Titles and explanations are encouraged, but not required.
Contest ends September 1 Limit of three entries per participant
Winners will have their work made into a postcard series for upcoming actions and the grand prize is a $100 gift certificate to REI! The grand prize winner’s art will also be featured as the Mexican gray wolves Facebook profile picture for one month! All entries will be honored in a Facebook album and on our website.

Lauren Sarantopulos – Wildlife Conservation Artist
“Create with Purpose – Creating art that builds public awareness about wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability”
Lauren recently graduated from Northern Arizona University with a degree in environmental biology and wildlife ecology. She has been painting wildlife since age 10 and has merged her life-long fascination for nature and her education to be an advocate for wildlife and the environment.

Katie Preston – Activist and Textile Artist
Katie is the owner of Skunk Mountain Sewing in Flagstaff, Arizona. She is committed to sustainable living and protecting the environment. She believes that it is important to engage children to these ends and is currently designing and creating an interactive puppet theater to educate youth about Mexican wolves with Grand Canyon Wolf Recovery Project.

Lauren Strohacker – Eco-Political Artist
Lauren’s work emphasizes the non-human in an increasingly human-centric world. She creates multidisciplinary interventions that examine the ever-growing conflict between humans and animals as our manufactured environments (physical and economical) expand into natural habitats. Conceptually, Strohacker’s focus on wildlife and public space reflects larger contexts of ecology, conservation, and politics. She has won several awards for her collaborative project with Kendra Sollars, ‘Animal Land’, which brings wildlife encounters to urban areas through video projection.
